OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Gov. Chris Gregoire has extended a ban on all outdoor and agricultural burning in Eastern Washington because of continuing wildfire danger.
The governor said Monday that firefighters have been able to gain ground because they’re not being diverted to tackle human-caused fires.
The ban includes campfires, bonfires, yard clean-up and land clearing. The ban will last through Sept. 30.
The governor also urged residents to protect themselves from smoke from the wildfires.
An emergency proclamation declaring a State of Emergency remains in effect, and allows air support from Washington’s National Guard to help with firefighting.
