It’s the season for Washington’s best loved fruit – apples! Lots of apple festivals this weekend, along with Oktoberfests, airshows and pumpkins! Welcome to October!

Wings and Wheels Festival

It’s the 9th annual Wings and Wheels Festival. Car show at Eastmont Community Park in East Wenatchee, and airshow at Pangborn Memorial Airport. Bring the kids to see the Museum of Flight’s Flying Gizmo Show or visit the Robot Garage. The Red Apple Flyers demonstrate their remote controlled aircraft. Wenatchee Wine Country will provide a sample of 12 local wines with a souvenir glass for $20 in the wine garden. Also, stop by the Alaska Airlines booth for a chance to win two round-trip tickets to Hawaii. Fun for the whole family.

Live entertainment in this quaint Bavarian village, and plenty of beer! Bring the kids and enjoy Kinderplatz downtown. Kinderplatz is an area just for kids with climbing wall and bouncy toys, and L-Bow the Clown. Enjoy vendor booths with crafts, souvenirs, and German items including great local food favorites and traditional German sausages.

Apple Days brings back its apple pie contest, cowboy shoot-outs in the village, the Old Time Church Service Sunday morning and plenty of vendors and demonstrations. The Tillicum Riders return to give horse rides to the kids. Joining in the fun this year is the Wenatchee Youth Circus, October 1. The Fishin’ Magician Dave Graybill also will perform during the weekend.

This is the day to celebrate apples in historic Steilacoom. This is an annual favorite and a great event for all ages. Press apples into cider the old-fashined way with hand-operated presses, listen to music all day and visit the handcraft and food booths along Lafayette Street. Apple-related foods will be featured including caramel apples, apple pie, old fashioned apple butter and hot spiced apple cider. There will be an Apple Identification booth to give you information on growing apples locally. Pony rides, a petting farm, and children’s activities will add to the day’s enjoyment!

An annual event for the past 22 years, there are nearly 200 varieties of common and uncommon fruits, cider, nuts, plus rare fruit jellies and sauces for you to taste and enjoy. These are all fruits you can grow in NW Washington! Live music provides a pleasant background to this event. This is a festive family outing that many people annually attend. Julia’s Pumpkin Patch U-pick and We-pick pumpkins and gourds will be available during the festival and the month of October.
